Samurai on Multiple Platforms

Another misconception regarding Samurai's ability is that it can only be used with Blackberry. We've tried long and hard to change this image, but maybe some clarification is in order.

Indeed, RIM already provides a level of encryption, but, we have yet to find someone who likes it. The complaints are that it is too complex and that it just doesn't provide the level of encryption needed.

For the Blackberry environment, the Samurai system is much easier to use and provides a much higher level of security; at the point of transmission to the point of reading.

While we have put the the technology onto Blackberries and Outlook, the technology extends much further. The technology applies to any digital information from and to any computer.

Questions about Samurai

When we first announced the Turing Challenge there were definite nights of cold sweats, freaking out that maybe someone out there would indeed be able to break the code and then where would we be? Well...up a certain creek with no paddle.

We walked the aisles of RSA this year and talked with a lot of different companies, some offering similar solutions, and some looking to explore our services a bit more. None of them, however, were able to muster up the full ability to promise the security that SAMURAI provides. That's quite a bold statement, but it's very much true.

Take for example Google's newfound email encryption service. I sat and talked with them for some while regarding their services. Their method of "We don't want users to have to download anything," while sounding nice and user friendly, also stirs up some huge protection and security issues. How exactly do I know that my email is truly encrypted? And at what stage does it reach encryption and maintain encryption to my intended recipient? These are huge issues. You need to be able to trust your provider.

Just ask Yahoo users in China.

Well, Samurai provides encryption that is generated on your end, and decrypted only on the recipient's end. That's why downloading the program is the essence. In a conference in which security is the theme, it would seem obvious to note that the more protection you offer someone the more pleased they are going to be with your services. It seems obvious. Maybe we just expect more.

Another fantastic theme in our comments and questions is in regards to the PIN. Take this comment:

I'm intrigued by the encryption technology. At first it seemed unconvincing that anything that relied on a four-digit pin could be secure or novel.

We get mention of the PIN quite a bit, so a small clarification. The ONLY PIN you'll have to remember is your own. No one else's. It is really that easy, and that secure.
